Hiking Munsu Mountain
We needed to start our preparation for hiking Mt. Fuji and what better place to start than in Korea where almost 70 percent of the country consists of mountains. Our first mountain to climb to train for hiking Mount Fuji was Munsu Mountain, which is located in Ulsan. The sky was clear and the weather was perfect for hiking. As we were hiking to the top of the mountain we bought some melon and red bean ice pops. This was a real treat to cool off from the steep climb. It took about two hours to hike to the top and see the beautiful view of Ulsan. Not only can you see the whole city, but it’s also surrounded with dozens of mountains. On our descent, we took a different route and came across a bamboo forest that lead us out to the country (or a small country town called Anyeong). It was something really special. Right before we left we purchased some pumpkin seeds for 3,000 won from an ajumma (old lady) who was selling all kinds of goodies. She was a real pleasant lady who was full of joy. She offered us fresh rice cake that was made literally in 10 seconds and it tasted amazing. Munsu is a beginner mountain, which is very manageable and has carved out tracks. In the upcoming weeks we are on the hunt to find some other jewels in Korea to conquer. It was a perfect way to spend a Sunday afternoon.
